Joseph Boodhoo came from Guyana in the early ’70s with nothing but his family and a dream.
After gaining a bit of footing in a new country and society, Joseph managed to open his first restaurant inside of a flea market on Weston Road under the name, Caribbean Delight.
He geared his focus to cater towards the West Indian Heavy neighborhood, and so the dishes took on a more traditional tone.
As time progressed and business continued to steadily grow, Joe started his new endeavor under the now familiar, “Tropical Joe’s” branding, building, and selling off franchises as he looked towards retirement.
During that time, Chris, Joe’s son, had decided to take over the Gerrard Square location and keep it within the family.
Throughout the years under Chris’s vision, he began to update the style of service, as well as the menu to adapt to the rapidly changing neighborhood.
The other franchisees have since been sold and changed into different restaurants, but two remain with the same moniker attached. There is no connection with the other locations as each Tropical Joe’s is now independently owned and operated–hence why you will notice the difference in quality, service, and menu choices for our standalone Gerrard Square location.
