Gare de l’Est Brasserie is named after one of the largest and the oldest railway stations in Paris; Gare De L’Est. Designed to gather food and wine lovers from all over the city in the east end of Toronto. It is an authentic and modern French brasserie that celebrates the Parisian dining experience in the heart of Leslieville, and direct neighbors to Crow’s Theater.
GDL at the corner of Dundas and Carlaw brings to life a classic take on French cuisine with modern flavors, expressive wine selections, and a vibrant cocktail and beer program. Drawing its connection to theater, every night is a dinner and a show. Setting the tone for lively yet familial and warm hospitality within a well-orchestrated flow of service. The environment can only be described as true romance from the alluring and charming atmosphere as French cheeses get plated, the sound of a sizzling pan cooking Steak Frites and the clinking of Cote Du Rhone on a Tuesday evening.
Gare de l’Est Brasserie is welcoming, modern, and plush with royal blue banquettes, the softness of white tablecloths, and warm tones of wood chairs reminiscent of Parisian nature. The space is original steering towards timeless showcasing the beauty in French ambiance. While service remains equally inviting along the entirety of the restaurant, the dining room and cafe propose a slightly different atmosphere. Intimate dining just past the bar with a view of the CN tower through the 15ft windows to a cozy cafe with views of the action as ingredients for cocktails get to know each other.
The honest approach to food is rooted in simplicity executed incredibly well. The best ingredients and the right techniques are what create the perfect meal. From classics such as the Moules Frites as presented at both Dinner and Brunch to more elevated dishes like the richness of a braised lamb shank. As the season and city landscape changes so do GDL’s menus, but they always root back to its core French traditions.
