Four Sweets Cookies

Passion. Obsession. Love. These are the most accurate words to describe my journey. Baking has always been a hobby that I enjoyed; a creative outlet in a busy life. Once my children came along, I realized a greater passion and joy in creating their birthday cakes. Luckily, children love anything that “Mommy makes”, because in those early days, they could very politely be referred to as “beginner” and “Pinterest nailed it” cakes.

The turning point from hobby to business happened quite accidentally while my daughter and I decided to try our hand at decorated sugar cookies. It was Halloween, and we decided to make monster cookies out of round cookies with all kinds of fun colors and eyes. She was 2 years old at that time, and we had the time of our lives. This beautiful memory was the beginning of a life change for me. My company is named after my four children, who are, for the most part, “my sweets” and most certainly, the loves of my life.

I was an educator all my life, working for the Toronto District School Board as an elementary teacher. I took a huge leap of faith and decided to see where this little cookie thing might take me. After all, I had a passion for it like nothing I’d ever experienced and I felt so much joy in making people smile.

After thousands of hours and just as many mistakes, I feel like I have the experience to meld my passion for teaching and my passion for decorating, and have recently begun hosting cookie decorating classes. I cannot even begin to tell you how pleased I am at how this has developed. Imagine a group of creative people getting together with cookies, icing, some great laughs, and some delicious snacks, and you may begin to visualize what a cookie decorating class experience is like. Some are tame, some are wild, but I can assure you, they are all so much fun. Classes are designed for all levels and trust me, you will surprise yourself with your finished product.
After a couple of years renting commercial kitchen space, I am finally making my dreams come true and opening a place of my own. I am so happy that I have found the perfect spot right in the community that has helped me get to where I am now. I have been blessed with the support of family, friends and my community and I’m so honored to now be a small business owner in the West Rouge Community of Toronto. Typically, I would not describe myself as a huge risk-taker, but certainly, I am living proof of “following your dreams”. Words from a very good friend of mine that keep things in perspective were, “that if you are not afraid of your dreams, then you’re not dreaming big enough”.

In fact, I find myself thinking about the person as I’m making their cake and cookies. I love it when I know them personally, but even if I don’t, there is always a story behind every order.
